Shelley Sturman is head of the Object Conservation Department at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D. C. and also teaches a two semester course on Museum Preventive Conservation in the Graduate School at George Washington University. She received her B.A. and M.A. from Brandeis University and holds her M.S. in Conservation from the University of Delaware-Winterthur Museum program. She has published widely on a variety of conservation and scientific topics and has lectured at major universities and international meetings. She is a Fellow and a former director of the American Institute for Conservation (AIC), has served as chair of the AIC Nominating and Awards Committees and currently on the Membership Committee; Fellow of the International Institute for Conservation (IIC) and past president and director of the Washington Conservation Guild.
