Silvia A. Centeno is currently a Research Scientist in Department of Scientific Research (DSR) at The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met), in New York, where her main responsibilities include the investigation of the material aspects of works of art, with a focus on paintings, works of art on paper, and photographs.  From 2012 to September 2016, she worked with a team of scientists at The Met, the University of Delaware, and at other institutions, in the project ‘Structure and Dynamics of Metal Soap Aggregates at the Pigment/Binder Interface. A Multinuclear Solid-State NMR Study for Understanding Aging and Degradation Processes in Cultural Heritage Objects,’ funded by the US National Science Foundation (NSF). The team has recently been awarded a second NSF grant to study soap formation with the project ‘Water-Mediated Transport of Ions and Molecules in Ionomeric Paint Films: an Integrated Multitechnique Investigation.’
