Saskia Smulders - de Jong is a conservation scientist at the Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed (Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands). After 7 years working as a biochemical and pathological laboratory analyst, Saskia Smulders - de Jong completed a Master's degree in Conservation & Restoration of Cultural Heritage from the University of Amsterdam. Afterwards, during the two-year post-initial phase at the university she worked on various restoration projects in Amsterdam and did an internship at home and abroad. In Apeldoorn she worked for six months in the furniture restoration studio of the National Museum Paleis het Loo, after which she traveled to Scandinavia for 6 months to join the furniture restoration department of the National Museum Denmark. Saskia previously worked as a Junior Furniture Restorer at the Rijksmuseum. She is also a member of the board of Stichting Ebenist, Amsterdam. This foundation organizes an annual symposium in the field of wood and furniture restoration.
