Katherine Eremin is the Patricia Cornwell Senior Conservation Scientist at the Straus Center for Conservation and Technical Studies at the Harvard Art Museums. Katherine studied Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge and received a PhD in metamorphic petrology from the University of Cambridge. Following this, she joined the National Museums of Scotland as an inorganic scientist in the department of Conservation and Analytical Research, focusing on archaeological and historic glass, metals, and ceramics from Europe, the Mediterranean and the Far East. Her current research centers on the use of inorganic materials in art works, with a particular focus in the study of Chinese glass, ceramics and jades, inorganic materials from the Nuzi excavations, Ancient Near Eastern polychrome decoration, technical study of funerary portraits at the Harvard Art Museums, and changes in the pigments used in Islamic and Indian manuscripts.
