Veronica Biolcati is an intern at the Technical Studies Research Laboratory of the Getty Conservation Institute. Her research interests include the investigation of the materials and techniques used for painting, the application of new methods and technologies for the scientific study of works of art, as well as the evaluation of new methods for conservation practice. In 2018, she was a fellow at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, where she participated in the development of a new micro-invasive sampling and analysis protocol for characterizing inks used in hand-colored black and white photographs. Previously, she joined the Art Institute of Chicago as part of her Master’s thesis internship. Her research activities included the technical examination of 11 watercolors by John Singer Sargent as well as carrying out color fading tests on modern light-sensitive pigments and chromogenic paper using tunable LED lights. Veronica graduated with honors from the University of Bologna with a Master’s Degree in Heritage Science. She received her B.Sc. in Conservation Science from the University of Ferrara with a thesis focused on earthquake-induced damages on historical buildings.
