Steven Pickman is an objects conservator in professional practice within the Washington, DC area. He graduated from Brandeis University in 2001 with a BA in Anthropology (specializing in Archaeology) and was a recipient in 2008 of a Master of Arts degree from the UCLA/Getty Conservation program in Conservation of Archaeological and Ethnographic Materials. In 2009, he formed Steven Pickman Objects Conservation LLC, a private art conservation practice in the greater Washington, DC region to provide consultation, short-term resolutions, and long-term solutions for the preservation, conservation, and restoration of three-dimensional art objects and artifacts. The firm has broad material experience, including glass, stone, metal, wood, ceramic, plastics, painted surfaces, and organic materials in a number of different contexts, including but not limited to, archaeological, ethnographic, historical, technical, fine arts, sculptural, and as part of composite objects. Clientele have included private collectors, art
galleries, art shippers, insurance companies, auction houses, and museums (public and private institutions). Steven Pickman Objects Conservation LLC has also functioned as a sub-contractor for other conservation firms. Experiences gained include treatments of individual objects and collections, conservation preparations for loans, pilot surveys, design review, collection assessments, workshops, installation/deinstallation, collections care, and triage conservation. Work has been carried out independently and as part of a collaborative team, incorporating project management with logistical design, planning, organizing, coordination, and supervision of allied professionals.
