Rosa Lowinger has been a conservator of outdoor sculpture and public art since 1984. A graduate of the Conservation Center at NYU’s Institute of Fine Arts and a Fellow of the American Institute for Conservation, she is the principal of Rosa Lowinger and Associates, a private sculpture and objects conservation firm with offices in Miami, FL and Los Angeles, CA. RLA has a broad client base that includes an extraordinary number of public art agencies, including the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority, the Hawaii State Foundation for Culture and the Arts, the Los Angeles County Arts Commission, University of Miami, Florida International University, Miami-Dade County, the Palm Beach County Cultural Council, the Long Beach Arts Council, the Broad Art Foundation, the General Services Administration (GSA), the Chinati Foundation (Marfa, TX), and the cities of Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, San Jose, Miami Beach, Coral Gables, West Hollywood, and Honolulu. Rosa was the 2008-2009 Rome Prize Fellow in Conservation at the American Academy in Rome with a project researching the history of vandalism to public art and public space. She is the author of Ask the Art Nurse, a column on the award winning art blog www.c-monster.net designed to provide conservation information to artists, and is featured in the Getty Conservation Institute’s 2011 film on conservation of outdoor painted sculpture.
