Karina Åberg is a member of The Leonardo da Vinci DNA Project and currently artist-in-residence at The Rockefeller University in New York. In 1988 she received her bachelor of fine arts (BFA) degree in illustration from the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York. In 1991 she received her master of fine art (MFA) degree in computer media. While at SVA she studied Renaissance painting techniques which have served her well on her current project. Karina has extensive work experience in the field of digital art and rich-media production (Scholastic Books, Young & Rubicam, United Digital Artist, MTV Networks). Since 2001 she has worked with scientists at The Rockefeller University in the visual presentation of quantitative information. Karina is currently a guest investigator in the Laboratory for Chemical Biology & Signal Transduction at The Rockefeller University where she is the driving artistic force behind the search for methods that may lead tools for identifying and extracting ancient and modern DNA from artworks. She is expecting to receive her master of science (MS) degree in interactive media in May 2019.
