Christine Sitwell received a Master of Science in Art Conservation from the University of Delaware/Winterthur Museum in the United States. Subsequently she was awarded a Smithsonian fellowship for an internship in the conservation department at the Tate Gallery, London. In 1990 she joined the National Trust and is currently the Paintings Conservation Adviser and is responsible for overseeing the care and conservation of the Trust's collection of over 13,000 paintings located in approximately 250 historic houses. She also advises on the conservation of historic decorative paint schemes within the Trust. She has published numerous articles on paintings conservation, technical research related to paintings conservation and the conservation of decorative interiors. She is a Fellow of IIC and chairman of the Historic Interiors Section of ICON.
