José Luis Lazarte Luna obtained a Master of Science degree from the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation with a specialization in paintings. He is completing his second year as a fellow in the Department of Paintings Conservation, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where he conducts the examination, treatment, and technical study of Baroque paintings from the Viceroyalty of New Spain. Jose was born in Lima, Peru, where he was exposed to Colonial art collections showcasing the union of Spanish and Pre-Columbian iconography. His early introduction to important art collections around the world solidified his interest in the preservation of artworks. As a graduate student, he has had internships at Yale University Art Gallery in New Haven, El Prado Museum in Madrid, and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.
