A third-year graduate student in the SUNY Buffalo State Art Conservation program specializing in objects conservation, Daniel is interested many types of materials. Drawn in particular to ethnographic, natural history, and archaeological collections, his current third year placement is at the Field Museum in Chicago. Daniel has a background in archaeological materials, having graduated summa cum laude from the University of Minnesota with a bachelors degree in Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology in 2008. While completing his undergraduate degree, he worked for two years with the Weisman Museum at the university, cataloging and researching a collection of over 400 Levantine antiquities. During the summer of his junior year, he was introduced to archaeological excavation, volunteering at the site of Heraclea Lyncestis in the Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia. After graduation, Daniel spent a number of years working as an art preparator and also as an outdoor sculpture technician. He also spent two years interning with private paintings conservator Marie Rizkalla, private objects conservator Kristin Cheronis, and also at the Minnesota Historical Society under the guidance of Senior Objects Conservator Tom Braun. He has continued to be inspired by ethnographic and archaeological materials while pursuing his conservation masters, treating a wide array of artifacts while in the SUNY Buffalo program. Still, there is no better way to understand cultures and their crafts than through first hand immersion. Daniel had such an opportunity over the summer of 2016, conserving freshly excavated finds as an intern at the American School of Classical Studies Athenian Agora Museum. While western antiquities have been his primary focus, he has been intent on expanding his knowledge of other materials and crafts to become a more versatile conservator. Daniel spent this summer focusing on North American ethnographic materials and historical objects at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West.
