Emma Ziraldo

Emma Ziraldo is a conservation scientist and certified restoration technician. She studied in Italy and gained her MSc in Material Science for Cultural Heritage from the University of Turin and her BA in Technology for Study and Conservation of Cultural Heritage from the University of Milan. She has experience in damage prevention, environmental monitoring and diagnostic analysis of artworks as well as image based investigation techniques for conservation and photographic documentation. She is currently the Graduate Intern at the Getty Conservation Institute assigned to the Managing Collection Environments Initiative. Prior to this, she held a position as a Conservation Assistant for the National Trust in the UK. She has an interest in exploring storage strategies for conservation planning, environmental management strategies and 3D imaging for condition monitoring. She is involved with the improvement of guidelines for museum environmental monitoring and the study of the relationship between micro-damage development and climatic conditions. She is also developing a research study based on the use of 3D scanning for monitoring dimensional change in objects.
