Richard Barden holds a Masters of Arts, with a Certificate of Advanced Study in Art Conservation from the State University of New York, College at Buffalo, and is a Professional Associate of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works. Hired as an Objects Conservator, Richard has worked at the National Museum of American History for the last 25 years. He has managed American History’s Preservation Services department for the last 13 years. Preservation Services is responsible for the conservation and preservation of the Museum’s 2,000,000 artifacts. As Manager of Preservation Services, he oversees the work of four permanent staff and various temporary staff, contractors, and interns, working in the three conservation laboratories, Objects, Paper, and Costume/Textiles.
